'Open up our borders EVEN MORE' Macron fields political novices to push pro-EU agenda
EMMANUEL MACRON has been fielding political novices for the French parliamentary election in a bid to push through a pro-EU agenda.
En Marche candidate: We want to open borders even more
One candidate running for the French President’s En Marche! party in Rouen is pharmacist Cyrille Grenot.
Speaking to DW English, the candidate spoke of his centrist leader’s “different approach” while canvassing in the area.
He said: “Six million people in France are left far behind, all those who live in destitute areas they could become consumers or entrepreneurs – this is the chance to bring them back in.
“Macron has a different approach, he has been listening to the people’s concerns and is taking them to account.

We are pro-Europeans, we want to open up our borders even more – limiting immigration doesn’t make sense
“I think many will realise what a turn around this is and that this could really improve their lives.”
With immigration and counter-terrorism continuing to be a hot topic on this lips of potential voters, Mr Grenot spoke of his party’s desire to increase the level of migration within the European Union.
He said: “We are pro-Europeans, we want to open up our borders even more – limiting immigration doesn’t make sense.
“The Front National is missing the point, you just need one or two people to prepare an attack – they can be foreigners or French people, how could borders stop them?”
Guillaume Pennelle called for tighter controls on immigration
Also speaking to the news channel was Front National rival Guillaume Pennelle, who made the case for tightening France’s borders.
He said: “In Rouen and in other cities immigrants are isolating themselves more and more with many of them adhering to radical Islam – that is threatening our identity and civilisation.
“The Front National is the only party which proposes to immediately expel all foreigners suspected of being radicalised.
“We can’t show any weakness in front of an Islam that is attacking our very identity and killing people here and elsewhere in Europe.”
