Texas college lockdown – two dead in campus shooting as students told to run
A US college is in lockdown after a gunman stormed the campus leaving at least one person dead and students running for their lives.

At least one person has been killed after a gunman opened fire at North Lake College, in Texas.
The school has been placed in lockdown after the school reported an active shooter situation, with the gunman believed to have committed suicide after shooting one person dead.
The alleged gunman is described as a white man with a buzz haircut, wearing an orange tank top and a black jacket.
He is said to have been armed with a handgun.
A tutor at the college told local reporters she saw the gunman standing over his victim, who was sitting in a chair, before shooting her three times.

Neither the shooter or victim have ben publicly identified.
Irving Police department have warned everyone to stay away from the area after shots were fired just before noon, local time.

According to officials, the incident happened in ‘Building A’ on the North Lake Campus.
North Lake College’s twitter warned students to run for their lives, and to barricade themselves in the nearest room for their own safety.
Police are on scene and continuing to search buildings to ensure the area is safe.

The college’s Facebook page has advised students: “North Lake College Intruder Lock-down
"POLICE ON SCENE Proceed with others to the nearest room and barricade and/or lock yourselves in the room.
“Wait in place for further instructions from police. If you are not on campus, STAY AWAY for your own safety. We'll update you as soon as we can.

Those trapped inside reported seeing police searching room to room armed with assault rifles.
Frightened students were tweeting from inside the building as police hunted the gunman.

One said: “Man I'm stuck in my classroom on lockdown, somebody shooting at Northlake.”
While another described how they were “hiding”, tweeting: “At Northlake Hiding, I should of listened to my Boyfriend and went home instead!!”
Another said “So I go to turn in a transcript for northlake college, then 10+ police cars pull up and officers hop out with rifles. There's a shooter.”

And a fourth posted: “There is an active shooter at northlake please be safe everyone.”
People were allegedly seen fleeing the campus, in the Irving area.
The Irving Independent School District (IISD) says nearby Singley Academy and MacArthur High School are also under lockdown.
The college has been closed for the day
Leslie Weaver, from the IISD, said: ”We will do everything we can to keep our students safe.”
Trains have temporarily stopped calling at North Lake College Station, and a shuttle bus is in operation between the Belt Line and Irving Convention Center Stations.
The college has been closed for the day with information telling “All students, staff, visitors outside the campus must leave the perimeter.”
