The world's "tallest residential tower in the world" could soon be under construction after being given government approval.

The Senna Tower, which is primed for construction in the city of Balneário Camboriú in southern Brazil, could stand at a whopping 1640 feet with 228 residential units, including 18 ‘mansions’, 204 apartments, four duplex penthouses, and two ‘two mega triplex penthouses’.

A race track will encircle the podium, which will be part of an "immersive space" dedicated to Brazilian racing driver Ayrton Senna, who was killed after his car crashed into a concrete barrier while he was leading the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix at the Imola Circuit in Italy.

The 34-year-old was the second driver to die that weekend after Austrian Roland Ratzenberger crashed his Simtek car into a wall during qualifying.

Amenities will be distributed over six floors throughout the building and there will be public entertainment areas, including an immersive space dedicated to Mr Senna.

The project is a joint venture between developer, construction and engineering firm FG Empreendimentos and the Senna Brand, the lifestyle brand of the late driver.

Costing a reported £415m, the concept was devised by architectural firm FG Empreendimentos and designed by Senna's visual artist niece Lalalli.

She said: "Every great story begins with a journey. A journey of discovery, growth and transformation.

"The Senna Tower is a work of art of monumental proportions: a symbol that inspires us to seek to overcome our limitations and express the greatness within us.

"The tower has this architectural form precisely to symbolise this heroic journey of overcoming our ideals and the manifestation of our deep potential."

Bands of lights will run up the facade and around the base with a 6,000 square metre rooftop will contain a ‘leisure space’.

Work is set to begin in the second half of 2025 lasting 10 years.

Amenities will be distributed over six floors throughout the building, it has received approval from the city hall of Balneário Camboriú and local planning bodies Estudo de Impacto de Vizinhança (EIV) and Licença de Implantação Ambiental(LAI).
