THE FIRST pictures of a bombed-out Syrian airbase have emerged after Donald Trump ordered a massive Tomahawk missile strike.
Aftermath of US airstrike on Syrian al-Shayrat airfield
The US bombarded the Al Shayrat airbase in Southeastern Homs in retaliation to a chemical weapons attack in which at least 80 people died horrific deaths.
Images and videos of children suffocating in the street shocked the world and prompted outcry to leaders to act against President Bashar al-Assad, the man widely accused of ordering the assault.
He claims a bomb hit a rebel warehouse which was stockpiled with chemical weapons.
The strike on Thursday used Tomahawk Land Attack Missiles, or TLAMs, launched from destroyers USS Porter and USS Ross.

According to reports six people died at the airbase which was blasted by cruise missiles.
A total of 59 TLAMs targeted aircraft, hardened aircraft shelters, petroleum and logistical storage, ammunition supply bunkers, air defense systems, and radars.
The extent of the damage is not yet know, however, the US aim was to render it unusable.
The airbase was used by the Russian Air Force for operations against ISIS and Al Qaeda.
Britain has fully supported the US decision with Sir Michael Fallon saying it was a “limited, appropriate and narrowly focused action”.

The UK Defence Secretary said this morning “there have been extensive consultations in Washington and London”.
The strikes are the first direct military action the US has taken against the leadership of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the country's six-year civil war.
