GERMAN farmers have reacted with outrage after a major sausage manufacturer vowed the nation would become VEGETARIAN in two decades.

The chief of Rügenwalder Mühle warned that in 20 years time Angela Merkel’s nation will only tuck into vegetarian sausages and schnitzel, despite the pork treat being a traditional family favourite.
In response, furious farmers have called for a boycott of the popular sausage manufacturer.
Nadine Henke, a North German pig farmer, tweeted: "We are consequently not buying any Rügenwalder products any more.”

Oktoberfest in Munich, the largest beer festival in the world - a staple sausage is served alongside steins of beer.
But Rügenwalder was the first German sausage manufacturer to replace meat with egg or milk fibres.
Vegetarian products already account for a fifth of the production volume, according to company records.
