A young woman, who discovered her flatmate's lifeless body, chose to live alongside the corpse for over three months. Shocking details have surfaced from a trial involving a 29-year-old female, who allegedly attempted to maintain a homeless man's mummified remains in an upright position - only for the head to become detached due to severe decomposition.

In 2020, Lilou G (a pseudonym used by newspaper La Provence) had been unreachable for several weeks. In July, her guardian was alerted by locals to an unbearable stench coming from her flat. In an apparent attempt to address the problem, the guardian enlisted cleaning services, who made two trips to Lilou's residence on Rue de la Juiverie, Carpentras, in the French department of Vaucluse.

In a disturbing discovery, reports Le Dauphiné libéré, they would uncover the headless remains of 'Pascal B', who was in his sixties and previously homeless, hidden within a sofa bed.

Pascal had recently been sharing the flat with Lilou, who reportedly suffers from the psychiatric conditions schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, and had received hospital treatment.

It would ultimately lead to the Carpentras Criminal Court trying the young woman for "desecration of a corpse" in absentia.

In spring 2020, Lilou allegedly discovered Pascal's remains on the sofa and decided to keep them upright, but subsequently hid the corpse in a way, described by French publication Nice-Matin, as "like in a tomb".

In a chilling turn of events, a witness claimed to have seen Lilou throwing several bin bags, allegedly containing the man's head and organs.

La Provence reports that the woman stated: "His body was like a mummy and his head had come off."

Initially, Lilou was charged with voluntary manslaughter and spent fifteen months in custody. However, due to insufficient evidence for murder, these charges were reportedly altered.

Ultimately, Lilou, whose lawyer, Stéphane Ceccaldi, argued she'd suffered from mental illness and abandonment during her childhood, received a four-month suspended sentence.

This follows reports from January detailing how a man killed his partner with a mallet and then lived with the body for several weeks. Yevgeny Andreyev, 36, confessed to murdering his girlfriend, Daria 'Dora' Perevozchikova, following a dispute.

During the incident, which occurred on New Year's Eve, she is believed to have begged him to stop the attack and call for an ambulance. But, he told police in St Petersburg, Russia, that he proceeded to throttle her with a tie until she died.

He subsequently messaged Daria's family and friends using her phone, informing them she hadn't been in touch as she was unwell. He also kept the window open in an attempt to mitigate the smell of the corpse.
