Settling on a place to live can be dizzying if you have the whole world to choose from.

There are a million different lists, studies and pieces of research telling people where they should lay their hat for good - and it can quickly become confusing when deciding where to settle.

Now, users of one website are discussing where they think is simply the best place to call home.

Taking to website Reddit one member enthused that they’d lived in five countries, on three different continents and in five famous cities - but just one gets their enthusiastic seal of approval.

They said: “I live part of the year in Hamburg. Amazing city, beautiful layout, food, parks, art and culture - has it all. A very elegant city."

they added: “Best of the five I have lived in (Johannesburg, London, Tel Aviv, Vancouver, Toronto).”

Located in northern Germany on the Elbe River, Hamburg is host to the country’s largest port and also acts as its commercial centre. It is also one of the most populous cities after the nation’s capital Berlin.

There is a huge amount to do in the city such as walking the Alter Elbtunnel - an amazing pedestrian tunnel for workers which became a tourist attraction in the 1970s after several bridges were built.

Other options above ground include the Speicherstadt which is the largest warehouse district in the world - and, unusually, where the buildings stand on oak logs.

Planten un Blomen is another great place for tourists to visit. Translating to ‘Plants and Flowers' the gorgeous park offers manicured flower beds, herb gardens and vast lawns.

Tourists are often impressed at Hamburg’s beauty - and travel bloggers also love it.

Caroline from www.packthesuitcases.com said: “Spending two days in Hamburg, Germany is a perfect little weekend city break.

“There are loads of things to do, places to visit, and of course (most importantly) amazing places to eat and drink. It’s like Berlin’s less pretentious seafaring cousin.”

The Elbphilharmonie - nicknamed Elphi - is a concert hall in the HafenCity quarter of the city on the Grasbrook peninsula of the Elbe River.

It impressed solo travel blogger Rose from www.wheregoesrose.com.

She said: “I love the diversity of Hamburg.

“As somewhere that was once a seaport and the heart of industry, it has the feeling that there’s endless opportunity to develop the old warehouses.

“The futuristic $789 (£599 million) Elbphilharmonie project is evidence of that.”
