Opinion was split on the video - with some people defending the actions of those on board and others being furious.

A video has captured the moment a group of American tourists seemingly brought an entire Italian beach to a standstill.

The footage, shared on video website TikTok, shows the group partying on a boat off the Amalfi coast.

The song Mambo No. 5 by Lou Bega blares out from speakers as the people on board dance and shout - with text over the footage stating, "POV: The American are treating the Amalfi coast like Miami".

However, the people looking on from the crowded beach, as well as people bathing in the sea, look on in apparent surprise and annoyance.

The video, which comes as protests about overtourism are taking place across many areas of Southern Europe, has divided opinion.

Defending it, the video's creator VinceRossi said: " A local drove us to this spot, chose the music, and encouraged us to dance! Wasn’t that serious - everyone involved was just having fun."

Another user added: "They’re having fun! People need to chill. We are a speck in the universe. Enjoy life!"

A third said: "One thing about Americans? We’re gonna have fun, with or without you."

Others however disagreed with the actions of those on the boat and the claim that 'everyone' was having fun.

One wrote: "'Everyone' means the five of you Yankees. The other people were suffering."

A second user suggested that people go to the beach to relax, not to listen to other people's music.

They said: "Why would other people want to listen to your noisy music? It’s not their private beach"

A third noted: "I don't mind people having fun but your right to fun doesn't supercede my right to relax. It's called respect for others and based on the camera movements these people know they're disturbing.

It was also pointed out that such behaviour was not limited to American visitors.

Another Tiktok user added: " Don’t pretend it’s just Americans that do this. The British are notorious for being bad tourists."
