Plans for what could become the tallest skyscraper in the United States have been approved, with an unprecedented design allowing for an "unlimited" height.

The new mega-structure, named The Legends Tower, will surpass the height of One World Trade Center, expected to come in at 1,907ft, spanning across 126 floors. However, developers emphasize that they are not aiming for an overly extravagant design.

The ambitious project is slated to start construction this coming fall in Oklahoma, featuring a mix of entertainment, dining, and retail spaces.

The Legends Tower is part of the Boardwalk at Bricktown complex, which also includes three smaller towers, each about 345 feet tall.

Originally, the skyscraper was planned to reach 1,750 feet, just shy of One World Trade Center. However, the recent approval by Oklahoma City's Council allows for the building to have no height restrictions.

“People have asked me often, what do you think about this development?", Councilwoman Nikki Nice said before a vote on the project last week. "I mean, the sky is the limit, no pun intended.”

AO, collaborating with Matteson Capital on the project, confirmed that construction will start in the fall.

“We eagerly anticipate the commencement of construction on the first buildings this fall, and subsequent groundbreaking on the Legends Tower, poised to be the tallest building in the U.S”, an AO spokesperson said.

Despite the lack of height restrictions, developers assure the public that the design will remain elegant and not overly ostentatious.

Bruce Greenfield, a studio partner, said: "You're gonna see it from all over the city. We didn't want it to be crazy or gaudy. We just wanted a nice graceful curve of the buildings and a distinguished top."

The height of the tower also holds symbolic significance, honoring the year Oklahoma became the 46th state of the United States, as stated by Matteson Capital.

This £607 million project will cover two million square feet, including 1,776 residential units, two luxury Hyatt hotels, and 110,000 square feet of entertainment, retail, and dining spaces. The top of the tower will feature a restaurant and bar offering panoramic views of the city, as well as an observation deck.

Upon completion, The Legends Tower will rank as the fifth tallest building in the world, marking a significant milestone in architectural history.
