Three killed in bar shooting spree
A gun-wielding man opened fire on a bar in western Japan on Tuesday, leaving two people dead, one of them an elderly woman, and another seriously injured before killing himself.
Initial reports identified the perpetrator as 49-year-old city employee Yasuhisa Sugiura.
Police chiefs believe the attack, which happened in Habikino City in Osaka, may have been motivated by a family dispute, and are investigating if the elderly woman killed was a relative of the gunman.
Sugiura, the elderly woman and a man in his twenties were pronounced dead after arriving at hospital.
Guns are strictly controlled in Japan and shootings are rare. When such attacks do occur, they are often linked to gangsters known as yakuza.
