Manaus has proved itself to be a modern city despite its surroundings being the vast Amazon rainforest.
The world’s largest rainforest has a city in the middle of it, which is home to nearly 1.8 million people.
Manaus is located in northwestern Brazil, next to the river and is the capital of the state of Amazonas.
Despite it being in the middle of a rainforest surrounded by trees and greenery, Manaus is a developed city with buildings, small businesses, and an airport. The city even has an opera house in the middle of it.
The famous Amazon Theatre opera house built in 1884 was titled as one of the most beautiful opera houses in the world by Vogue. It hosts the annual Amazonas Opera Festival and is home to the Amazonas Philharmonic Orchestra.

Manaus sees a mix of both international tourists and Brazilians visiting the city. Tourists can purchase a jungle lodge program or enjoy a daytime riverboat where they’ll visit five different attractions throughout the day.
The jungle lodge program includes pickup from Manaus, accommodation, meals, daily activities and a guide.
Those who purchase a program can even add additional tours to the programme, such as swimming with pink dolphins, an overnight experience in the jungle and visiting an Indigenous tribe.

It takes over an hour to get to the jungle lodge as although Manaus is located in the rainforest you have to travel further out the city to see the surrounding rainforest.
The city itself is fairly busy with people trading on the sides of the roads, and there are global brands, stores, and restaurants for visitors to enjoy.
