Rancher's family pays cattle ransom
Relatives of an abducted Paraguayan rancher said they are giving 30 cattle to the poor on orders from his kidnappers.
Diego Zavala said the donation of 10 cattle to three indigenous communities is a request that the family "will voluntarily honour".
Mr Zavala spoke in a news conference in the capital, Asuncion.
He also repeated previous requests that security forces call off their search for his older brother Fidel, saying it is hampering negotiations.
Interior Minister Rafael Filizzola responded that the government is not endangering the kidnap victim, and agents will not end their search.
Fidel Zavala was kidnapped in October.
A guerrilla band called the Paraguayan People's Army has demanded five million US dollars (£3.1 million).
