A bus has exploded in central Stockholm, leaving the driver seriously injured.
Stockholm: Plumes of smoke fill sky after bus explosion
The explosion occurred at Klaratunneln in the middle of Stockholm city. Huge plumes of black smoke were seen hovering above the Swedish capital. The driver was seriously injured and has been taken to hospital.
The bus is believed to have struck the roof of the Klaratunneln and the gas tank exploded on impact.
The bus was not in service and did not carry a passenger.
Eyewitness Björn Wallentin said: "I heard a big bang first and then several smaller ones.
"It seemed like a scaffolding collapsed."
Then he saw the dark smoke.
"I thought it was a terrorist attack," he added.
The police have blocked off in the area around Tegelbacken and the Klaratunneln in central Stockholm.
The emergency services fought against the flames 40 minutes after the explosion.
The bus company says the bus was not in operation when the incident occurred.
The bus is reportedly located at the crossing of Tegelbacken in the direction of Norrtull, resulting in the closure of two tunnels - the Klaratunneln tunnel and the Söderled tunnel.
