Hurricane Michael: FEMA announce search and rescue operation
Hurricane Michael is the third strongest storm in recorded history to hit mainland America.
The category four storm crashed into Florida on Wednesday afternoon destroying hundreds of homes in its path.
Winds of up to 155mph battered the Florida Panhandle.
Two people have been killed by falling trees due to the extreme weather, according to officials.
The hurricane arrived near Mexico Beach in Florida at 2pm (6pm GMT).
A storm surge warning from the National Hurricane Center was in place from Panama City Florida to Keaton Beach Florida.
Their website revealed: “A Storm Surge Warning means there is a danger of life-threatening inundation, from rising water moving inland from the coastline.”
Hurricane Michael will continue to produce heavy rainfall and the risk of flash flooding in the areas of Georgia, the Carolinas and southeastern Virginia.
Pictures emerging from the area show the devastating consequences of the storm.
Only the Labor Day hurricane of 1935 and Hurricane Camille in 1969 hit US land with greater intensity.
