Spain is famous for its ginormous expat community and a firm favourite for anyone looking to relocate to sunnier climes. Some of the most popular spots include Alicante and the Costa Blanca.

But one gorgeous Spanish village is quickly gaining traction among those eager to make a life for themselves in Spain. Gualchos - also known as Gualchos-Castell de Ferro - is a town in the Spanish province of Granada in Andalusia, with a population of around 5,000 people and just 60 miles from Almeria.

Crucially for those looking for life by the sea it boasts nearly 4.5 miles of coastline, wide open beaches and glimmering blue waters.   Among its beaches is Calle Rijana which is perfect for scuba diving.

It’s now among the country’s most popular for foreign property buyers, with foreign demand representing more than half of total interest in home buying according recent data reports The Olive Press.

The report reveals that it is British nationals who make up the highest foreign demand for properties in the town.

BluCee Real Estate sells property in the village and explained more about the area that expats are flocking to. It said on its website: “Gualchos is an authentic Spanish village with a small expat community.

“Not being a mass tourism destination, the area retains its charm throughout the year, though it is a popular destination for residents of inland Granada province during the summer months.

“Living in Gualchos-Castell de Ferro is perfect for those who want a quieter life on Spain’s Mediterranean coasts.”

Another of the key reasons Brits and other expats love Gualcho is because of its fun festivals which are aimed at making visitors feel welcome.

On the night of San Juan or the Fires of San Juan on June 23 and June 24 the beaches of Castell de Ferro are lit up with bonfires and people purify themselves with seawater.

On July 15 there are festivities in honour of the patron of Castell - La Virgen del Carmen - which is celebrated with a procession and fireworks.

And there is even a Tourist Festival in Gualchosin the second half of August which honours tourists who visit with a crowning of the male and female tourist of the year.
