Man opens box at car boot sale and makes 'horrifying' discovery
You never know what you might find at a car boot/yard sale, but one man might just have found the most unsettling item to have ever been flogged at one.
Car boot/yard sales are renowned for weird and wonderful finds - but one recent discovery left a bargain hunter stunned.
A man has revealed how he came across a horrifying collection of Barbie dolls that all appeared to have been crucified on handmade wooden crosses.
Taking to Reddit to share a snap of the box, he simply penned: "I found crucified Barbies at a yard sale."
The seller was looking for $15 (£11.81) for the lot. Crosses aside, the dolls looked in a serious state of disrepair, covered in stains including some that mimic blood. The photo terrified Reddit users, who told the original poster to keep well away from the home where he found the dolls.
"There's gonna be a Netflix documentary about the child who made those in about 5 years," one person said.
Another added: "I would stay away from that house and keep an eye on them if you live near them."
A third said: "Psycho … you have a serial killer in the making.. next step will be the pets of the neighborhood… alert the child services." And a fifth suggested: "If you put those in a movie about a serial killer, they would be too over the top." While a fourth joked: "That’s horrifying…fifteen dollars?!?"
One person attempted to offer a possible explanation for the Barbies. They wrote: "The play Hand To God calls for a bunch of crucified Barbies in the set dressing for Act 2. I designed props for a production of it once and had to make a bunch along with some terrifying satanic bears. Maybe it was for that?"

A second person recalled a time from their own childhood when dolls were subjected to a similar strange experience. "The year was 1968," the Reddit user began. "We had an old Midge that we didn't like (stiff hair, old fashioned face, hard body) so my older sister had us play Salem Witch Trials and we BURNED HER AT THE STAKE in our vegetable garden. Then we buried her and for all I know she's still there today. The home was just sold after 60 years in the family.
"I don't remember my Mother being upset over the flame and indeed another time I asked her if we could have a bonfire with our Barbies and she OK'd it after seeing the wee rock lined fire pit. But WTH."
Another joked: "Crucifixion was considered a shameful and humiliating way to die, reserved for slaves, foreigners, and those deemed a threat to the Roman state. The Roman historian Tacitus wrote that crucifixion was 'a punishment reserved for the lowest of criminals'. In the context of the Barbies' crucifixion, we can only assume that this was due to their crime of treason or sedition."
