No joke for Essex girls
COULD this be the end of the Essex girl joke?
A charity has been set up to combat the stereotype of them as dumb, stiletto-wearing, wine-swilling blondes.
It says such stories have damaged their self-esteem. The charity plans to “empower” local women with projects including art and poetry competitions.
The Essex Women’s Advisory Group, a registered charity, has already raised £34,000 in voluntary contributions.
Patron Elizabeth Hart, who is also the chairwoman of Essex County Council, said: “I am sick of and tired of people putting Essex girls down.”
