Storm tracker UK: Thunderstorm forecast for Britain TONIGHT
LIGHTNING storms are set to devastate Britain again today, after torrential rain and flash flooding caused chaos for parts of the UK last night. Here is the latest UK weather forecast and Met Office warnings.
Lightning rips through the sky during HUGE storm across UK
The Met Office has issued a “severe storm” alert for much of England and Wales as the extreme weather that battered the south yesterday sweeps northwards.
Yellow weather warnings have been put in place with a month’s worth of rainfall (50mm) set to fall through the course of the day.
Met Office spokesman Steven Keates said: "This morning it's probably going to be parts of the Midlands and eastern England that see potential for some heavy rain, some thunderstorms, and then a bit of a lull.
Thunderstorms battered the UK on Tuesday night
"Then just in time for the evening rush hour, a different location, this time across parts of northern England, north-west England in particular by the looks of it, will see the worst of the weather in places."
Weather maps show heavy downpours moving across the UK as the day goes on, with thunderstorms concentrated over the south and east of England.
Temperatures are likely to remain high after a muggy night with the mercury pushing into the low 30s in some eastern areas.

UK weather warnings
Met Office chief forecaster Eddy Carroll warned heavy rain, thunderstorms and hail threatens disruption throughout today.
He said: “Thunderstorms, with locally torrential downpours will continue to move north across England and Wales in the early hours of this morning.
“Although the thunderstorms will tend to ease from the south later in the night, further, possibly severe storms may break out again this afternoon, probably focused over parts of northeast Wales, central and northern England.
The storm map shows where thunderstorms will be concentrated
“Although some places will miss the thunderstorms, there is a chance of localised sudden flooding of homes, businesses and roads.
“Frequent lightning and large hail may be additional hazards, the latter bringing potential for disruption to power networks.
“This warning has been updated to keep the risk going over southern England through the early hours of this morning.”
