TORRENTIAL rain and 70mph gales could batter the nation this week.
National Weather Service warns of further heavy storms
The wet and windy weather will sweep in from the Atlantic with strong gusts in exposed regions by Friday.
The Met Office expects the rain to arrive today with rising temperatures.
But despite the sunnier weather parts of Britain faced icy roads after temperatures dipped below freezing overnight yesterday.

There is a high risk of exceptional wind speeds and widespread stormy weather
The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for ice across a huge swathe of the country.
Parts of the North will be slower to warm up prompting the Met Office to issue a cold weather “alert and readiness” warning.
Forecaster Marco Petagna said winds will pick up on Wednesday and it will be milder than of late all around the country.
The Met Office has issue a severe warning for ice across the country
He said: “Most areas will see some rain on Monday and towards the middle of the week it will start to turn quite windy. Gales or severe gales will affect exposed, coastal regions but by the end of the week strong winds could be more widespread.
“High pressure to the east of the UK is weakening and this is allowing low-pressure systems to come in off the Atlantic.”
This would bring milder, more unsettled conditions with temperatures hitting 53.6F (12C) or 55.4F in the South and around 50F in the North.
The air quality will improve on last week's smoggy conditions, say forecasters
“Although it is going to be milder than average for the time of year, there is still the potential for the odd pocket of frost with some places turning cold overnight,” he added.
“And the air quality should be much improved from the smoggy conditions of last week.”
Exacta Weather’s James Madden said gusts could top 70mph in northern and western regions.
He said: “Later on Wednesday and through to Friday there is a high risk of exceptional wind speeds and widespread stormy weather.”
