Just as Brits look set to bask in a 30C heatwave, weather maps have predicted the UK will see temperatures plummet just a few days later.

Temperatures in the UK look set to take a dive in August following this week’s sudden rise in mercury.

The heatwave will peak over the next couple of days, with Brits set to bask in up to 30C of sunshine.

However, from the beginning of August, the temperature is forecast to plummet, with some areas of the UK set to endure spells of 6C chills.

From Saturday morning, the bitter Arctic spell will move across the country with temperatures in the north and west particularly low for the summer months.

New weather maps show much of Scotland is forecast to experience a frosty 6C sting.

The predicted temperature does improve moderately further south, but the high of 16C forecast on the south east coast is a far cry from sweltering summer heat many would expect at this time of year.

Most of Wales is expected to peak around 8C with highs of between 8C and 10C also forecast in Northern Ireland.

From Newcastle to Manchester the mercury will only rise minimally to 10C, and as far as Southampton a grand high of 14C is forecast.

Despite the dramatic fall in temperature, the colder spell could come as a welcome break to Brits following this week’s surprise heatwave.

From Monday, the Met Office has forecast “plenty of sunshine” across the nation, with the country to also settle into a warm evening as highs of 30C continue into Tuesday.

Moving into August, the Met Office has warned the weather becomes more changeable as weakening Atlantic weather systems push eastwards across the UK.

The weather is likely to follow the typical pattern of becoming more settled around mid-August, but first Brits have been warned about an increased chance of clouds, drizzle and even thundery storms.
