Temperatures will reach a scorching 24C on Monday, June 24 at midnight, according to new weather maps.

This "mini heatwave" is expected to arrive after the summer solstice on June 20, bringing a plume of heat from France across the English Channel.

WX Charts maps show that the southeast of England, including London and Kent, will experience the highest temperatures.

Most of the UK will see temperatures around 20C, although the far north of Scotland will be cooler, with temperatures more than 10 degrees lower than in London.

Ian Simpson, a forecaster, stated there is a "substantial chance" of hot, dry, sunny weather in the southern parts of the UK towards the end of June.

"It looks likely that southern parts of the UK have a substantial chance of experiencing warm/hot dry sunny weather during the last third of June, with signs of a strengthening Azores High potentially throwing up ridges into southern parts of Britain in particular", he said on Netweather.tv.

"However, for northern Britain, there is a greater chance of a predominantly changeable westerly pattern becoming established.

"A pattern shift in late June would likely lead to some relaxation of the heat over south-eastern Europe while increasing the likelihood of hot weather at times in central and western Europe."

The anticipated warm weather is welcomed by pubs and football fans, as it coincides with England and Scotland's group games in the UEFA Euro 2024 tournament, which take place on June 16, 20, 23, and 25.

The Met Office's long-range forecast from June 24 to July 8 suggests a mix of drier, sunnier spells and occasional rain. Temperatures are expected to be close to or above average for the time of year.

In the immediate forecast, the UK will experience a mix of sunny spells and showers, with some areas seeing heavier rain and thunderstorms.

The weather will remain cool, especially in breezy areas. By midweek, showers will become lighter, with an organized band of cloud and rain arriving by Thursday.
