Donald Trump has declared he is "OK" with going to jail after being convicted of 34 felony charges in his hush money trial.

The former president, 77, vowed he "won't beg for anything" when asked if he fears going to prison when sentenced next month.

Asked on Fox & Friends about the possibility of imprisonment, he replied: "I'm OK with it. I saw one of my lawyers the other day on television saying 'oh no you don't want to do that'. I said 'you don't beg for anything'. It's just the way it is."

The maximum sentence for falsification of business records is four years imprisonment, although most legal experts expect Trump to escape with a fine due to his age and lack of a criminal record.

The Republican frontrunner, who is leading polls to replace Joe Biden in November, could technically still win the election from a jail cell. The US Constitution places no barriers on convicted criminals serving as commander-in-chief.

Trump was found guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business records following a $130,000 payment to porn star Stormy Daniels in 2016 to cover up a story about their alleged affair a decade earlier.

The payments were made via his former lawyer Michael Cohen, who convinced the jury that Trump was complicit in the payoffs, which were recorded as "legal expenses". Prosecutors said this was an attempt to mask the true purpose.

The jury took nine hours to convict Trump of all 34 felony charges and he will be sentenced on July 11.

It comes as Daniels broke her silence to demand that Trump is jailed. The ex-adult film star told The Mirror: "I think he should be sentenced to jail and some community service working for the less fortunate or being the volunteer punching bag at a women's shelter."

She also urged Melania to divorce her husband. Stormy, who allegedly had sex with Trump just a year after he married Melania, said: "I don't know what their agreement may or may not be, but Melania needs to leave him. Not because of what he did with me or other women but because he is a convicted felon.

"It's been proven he is abusive; he was found liable for sexual assault and tax fraud and is now a criminal. He's neither Teflon Don nor Teflon Con anymore."
