London terror arrest: Man, 43, held on terrorism charge
A MAN from south London has been charged with preparing to carry out a terror attack.
Ravi Mendis, 43, was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and threats to kill on Friday.
Yesterday (Saturday), anti-terror officers charged Mendis with engaging in conduct in preparation of terrorist acts under the Terrorism Act 2006.
He is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court tomorrow.
Scotland Yard said: "A man has been charged with a terrorism offence by officers from the Met's Counter Terrorism Command.
"Ravi Mendis, 43, from south London was charged on Saturday with engaging in conduct in preparation of terrorist acts contrary to section 5(1)(a) and (3) of the Terrorism Act 2006.
"He will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Monday.
"On Friday, Mendis was arrested in the south-London area on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and threats to kill."
