Mr Bolton was named Ukip’s new leader last week, making him the party’s fourth chief in 12 months after Nigel Farage stepped down after Brexit.

The golden chalice was said to contain “British Champagne, basically cold bovril”.

Delaney said: “This is the holy grail of British politics, and therefore this is a special drink we’ve got for you.

The host added: “Feel free to take a sip if you would like to…”

As Mr Bolton holds the vessel aloft, the audience proceeds to cheer: “Drink it, drink it, drink it…”

Delaney reveals that he was tricking the Ukip leader and reveals the real contents of the holy grail.
He concludes: “Not bad, is it?
“But, I’ve got to tell you, we’re a bit cheeky on this show and we were tricking you all along.
“It’s not a holy grail, it’s a poison chalice because let’s be honest that is what your new job is!”
