It has now emerged that Jonathan Layfield, 28, sent a string of sexualised emails to the 16-year-old either side of Connett secretly falling pregnant and giving birth.
He was suspended from his job as a history teacher after the girl’s parents discovered the messages and she confessed they had kissed.
Layfield sent emails to the pupil telling her how he fantasised about sex with her
Connett, 29, hid the baby’s body in a drain at her parents’ home in Grimsby in August 2013.
His remains were only discovered when a plumber was called to fix a “blocked drain” in February last year.
DNA tests revealed the couple as the parents but Connett told police she had thought the pregnancy was from being raped by a taxi driver after a work night out.
But detectives unravelled the deceit after colleagues confirmed there had been no night out.
Connett eventually admitted she had concealed her pregnancy and hidden the body but insisted she was not responsible for the baby’s death.
Judge Jeremy Richardson QC branded her a “callous, lying and calculating” woman who had robbed her newborn son of his dignity.
Sinead was jailed on Monday for concealing the birth of their baby who died shortly after birth
Connett and Layfield met as students at Leeds University in 2008 and later set up home, with Connett working for Tesco near the couple’s house in St Albans, Herts, while Layfield taught at Vandyke Upper School in Leighton Buzzard, Beds.
But in July 2012 Layfield started sending emails to the girl telling her how he fantasised about sex with her.
They were discovered in March 2014 and he was suspended before a Professional Conduct Panel which later disqualified him from teaching.
The couple married in November last year, with photos showing them laughing with family and friends.
