STILL GAME is about to kill off a major character when the new series returns to television later this year.

In scenes that are going to be filmed on a closed set to keep the big secret, one character will die.
While details are being kept under wraps and there is no confirmation from BBC One bosses, fans will be shocked to learn that one of their Craiglang favourites is about to meet his – or her – maker.
The popular sitcom about delinquent pensioners Jack Jarvis and Victor McDade, written by its creators and stars, Greg Hemphill and Ford Kiernan, has made household names out of a cast that has remained virtually unchanged since it began broadcasting in 2002 on BBC Scotland.

They include Jane McCarry as gossip Isa Drennan, Paul Riley as one-legged grump Winston Ingram, Mark Cox as his tightfisted pal Tam Mullan, Gavin Mitchell as landlord Boabby Taylor, Sanjeev Kohli as shopkeeper Navid Harrid, Shamshad Akhtar as his wife Meena, James Martin as Eric Jones, and Paul Young in the role of Shug McLaughlin.
A source said: “Ford and Greg are keeping this shocking storyline close to their chests. They have got something else following on from that which is also very shocking.”
The show hit a 50th episode marker at the close of series seven and, since moving to the BBC network, has attracted audiences of 1.3 million in Scotland and 3.2 million in total across the UK.
Still Game reveals brand new titles and theme tune
Killing off a character is usually revenge for a creator or producer in popular comedy and drama.
When an actor asks for more pay or more say, the reply can be a violent death for their character.
But, after a much-publicised split between the creators, which kept the show off the air for six years, the atmosphere among cast members on the reinvigorated show has been described as “very amicable”.

So much so that Craig Ferguson, the comedian and former US talk show host, described as “amazing” his experience in filming a guest-starring role in the new series
where he will play a character called Callum.
A source commented: “Craig said he was used to the American studio system where the cast keep to their trailers – and to themselves – when not filming.
“He said it was like just one big happy family on Still Game.”
