East Croydon station stabbing LIVE: Tram services blocked as man rushed to hospital

Tram services were blocked at East Croydon Station in London as a man was rushed to hospital after being stabbed in broad daylight.

A man has been rushed to hospital following a horrific daytime stabbing at East Croydon Station in London.

The attack took place on George Street and a police cordon has been set up in the area.

London Tramlink services between East Croydon and Reeves Corner were suspended as officers investigated the scene.

Paramedics arrived on the scene within five minutes of the incident occurring and took the victim to a major trauma centre "as a priority".

London Ambulance Service said in a statement: "We were called at 1.53pm today (Tuesday 1 October) to reports of an incident in George Street, Croydon. We sent resources to the scene, including ambulance crews and an incident response officer.

"The first of our crews arrived in five minutes. Our crews treated a man at the scene, before taking him to a London major trauma centre as a priority."

Graphic photographs show the scene

Graphic photographs circulating online show a bloody scene in the immediate aftermath of the attack.

The photographs which are too bloody to publish, show large pools of blood in the spot where the man was stabbed.

Witnesses believe man was stabbed in the neck

A local chicken shop worker told MyLondon: "We are worried about it, of course we're going to be worried. Generally, while we are working in the stores when things happen like that we are afraid.

"These things aren't good you know? We need proper police every time in this area."

Eye witnesses have described the police response in the aftermath of the attack on George Street.

The latest Croydon stabbing

The incident happened just a short distance away from the scene of the fatal stabbing of school girl Elianne Andam last year on her way to school.

In July, a man was stabbed on a Croydon bus before the attacker fled in the direction of East Croydon station.

Attacker still at large

A crime scene remains in place as officers with dogs have been seen examining the area where the attack happened.

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called by the London Ambulance Service at about 13:55hrs on Tuesday, 1 October to reports of a man stabbed on George Street in Croydon.

“There have been no arrests and enquiries continue.

“Anyone with information is asked to call police via 101 reference CAD 3728/01Oct.”

Facial recognition software being used in the vicinity

A facial recognition van was in use outside East Croydon station on George Street at the time of the stabbing.

The attacker remains at large and it is unclear at this stage, whether footage obtained by the van could be used to aid the investigation.

Where did the attack happen?

The attack happened on George Street, a road busy with public transport.

Part of the road was closed, disrupting tram services but has since been reopned, according to TfL.

Tram services have resumed

TfL has confirmed that the part of the tram line blocked off due to the attack has reopened.

The crime scene remains in place as police continue their investigations.

What we know so far

Scotland Yard has confirmed that the victim was a 23 year old male who remains unnamed.

Police were called at 13:55 to George Street, Croydon.

The attacker remains at large as police say " There have been no arrests and enquiries continue."
