AN AUDIENCE member on Question Time destroyed Labour MP Owen Smith in a furious rant as she said she could not wait to leave the EU.
'I'm SICK of your winging' says Brexiteer to Owen Smith
The failed Labour leadership hopeful was battered by an angry Question Time audience after he continued to claim leaving the EU would be a disaster.
On the panel deputy Ukip leader Peter Whittle and former Tory MP Ann Widdecombe, both had the audience on their side as they criticised the MP.
However quickly the 46-year-old Labour politician then came under fire from a Brexiteer in the audience who battered the politician.
The audience member said: “I think we will only get true democracy when we get out of the EU.
Owen Smith was smashed by an audience member as he wouldn't accept the will of the people
“For thousands of years Britain has ruled in a wonderful way. We’ve been alighted to the world.
“Now that we’re trying to get out of this stupid EU organisation, all these sort of things that Owen Smith keeps saying that I'm sick of hearing.
“Your whinging all the time, accept it Owen!”
The woman received huge support from the rest of the audience as many cheered at the angry remarks.
Mr Smith laughed off the abuse by saying: “Remoaner in chief is my title apparently.”
The audience watched on as one member grilled the Labour politician
You whinging all the time, accept it Owen!
On Wednesday Mr Smith voted against the triggering of Article 50 and was one of 52 Labour rebels who defied Jeremy Corbyn’s three-line whip.
Speaking in the House of Commons as MPs debated the bill, he said: “I sincerely believe Brexit is going to be a disaster for our country, one that is going to cost us and future generations in lost trade, in lost revenue and in lost opportunities.
“I equally believe it is a disaster for us to be dividing the country as we have done on this issue, on our values, on the crucial things we often hold in concept.
“I also think it is deeply destructive for us to have engaged in Brexit and unleashed a catalytic force of, in my view, destructive politics not just in this country but across the West.”
MPs pass Brexit Bill by large majority in House of Commons
On Thursday 494 MPs backed the Article 50 bill as it is set to be read in the House of Lords before Theresa May is given the power to begin the Brexit process.
Speaking on Question Time on Thursday night, the Labour politician was also criticised by deputy Ukip leader Mr Whittle who said that the country knew exactly what they were voting for with Brexit.
He said: “You are treating people like they are stupid, they knew exactly what they were voting for, they knew we were coming out of the single market.
“They knew all of these things, and this is a condescending argument we’re having now.”
