White Britons 'need to integrate with Muslims and migrants' Islamic leader claims
WHITE British people must be responsible for integrating Muslims and migrants into communities, a senior representative of the Muslim Council of Britain has hinted.
Dame Louise Casey: We need to educate Muslim men
Miqdaad Versi’s remarks are part of a response to a report that numerous British towns and cities have mutated “out of all recognition” by unlimited migration.
Dame Louise Casey’s report, commissioned by former Prime Minister David Cameron, warned that communities across Britain were becoming increasingly segregated after being ignored by successive Governments “for fear of being branded racist or Islamophobic” which has inadvertently increased “divisions and tensions”.
White Britons must integrate with Muslims, Miqaad Versi from the Muslim Council of Britain said
Mr Versi, assistant secretary-general of the Muslim Council of Britain, attacked the report for focusing “primarily” on Muslims and not looking at other ethnicities and religions in Britain today.
In his piece for The Guardian titled ‘White people must play a role in integration too’, he wrote: “She does not provide any solutions for African Caribbean, Roma or Traveller communities, with no acknowledgement of Scotland and Northern Ireland’s history of integration challenges – from which we must learn.
“Worryingly, Casey often conflates Muslim with Asian communities, giving the false impression that all regressive cultural practices are based on the Islamic faith despite clear evidence to the contrary.
Versi's response was to Dame Louise Casey's report on integration in Britain
“While the report does recognise the huge levels of socio-economic deprivation, low educational attainment and discrimination some Muslims face, none of her recommendations tackle structural inequality.”
He added: “Why does Casey say so little on how to tackle the fact that white British and Irish ethnic groups ‘are least likely to have ethnically mixed social networks’ – one of the key signs of integration.
Lack of intergration has caused increased tensions within communities
“And why is there so little discussion about what to do about ‘white flight’ from the inner cities as one of the drivers of further segregation.”
Mr Versi accuses Casey’s report of “sensationalising” the number of mosques practicing “certain religious practices” and rubbished claims that Muslims have a problem with Christmas, “despite many campaigns demonstrating the opposite”.
Dame Louise's independent review, published earlier this week, highlighted the growing difficulties between opportunity and integration in communities.
