A man was left shocked by his budget hotel room stay, which turned into a nightmare after a UV light inspection.

Zac Jones, a 27-year-old TikTok creator, was left stunned by his accommodation at The Highbury Hotel in Blackpool.

He was initially pleased with the amenities for the modest price of £12.80, stating: "For £12.80 a night I'm impressed." However, his opinion quickly soured following a UV light inspection.

The video showing the grim findings, with alleged stains on the chair, cupboard and mattress, quickly went viral. Zac branded the room "horrible" and "atrocious".

He said it was the "worst UV light inspection I've ever done" and decided not to stay the night there.

The public reaction was one of horror and agreement, with many vowing to stick to chain hotels in the future. One person said: "I first thought it wasn't too bad but after this never mind I'll go to an chain hotel."

Another simply stated: "Hell no." A third wrote: "I'd be booking a Premier Inn and leaving." Other users suggested there would be "no way" they would sleep there, though some appreciated that with a bargain comes a lower expectation.

"For £12 I think I'd expect worse," one user wrote. Another added: "For £12.80 I would still sleep in the bed, even if scenes of crime had just left." Zac left early but had no issues with the hotel staff as they were "friendly".

He did not expect a refund either, saying the price was "justified" due to the quality of the room and the low cost. He also appeared happy with the shared areas, though he noted some cobwebs and stray hairs.

He added: "The room wasn’t the worst I’ve stayed in, despite the price, and I was blown away when the owner said breakfast [was included] – and that it was included in the price!"

The Highbury Hotel has been approached for comment.
