Rare ‘Sky Blue Diamond' set to fetch £20m at auction
A STUNNING blue diamond ring could fetch more than £20million at auction.
The Sky Blue Diamond was unveiled by by Sotherby's in an auction house yesterday
The 8.01 carat stone – called The Sky Blue Diamond – was unveiled by Sotheby’s auction house in London yesterday.
Experts believe it could be sold for between £13million and £20.5million.
The diamond, by Cartier, will go under the hammer in Geneva on November 16 but will be on display in Sotheby’s London galleries from tomorrow through to Monday.

David Bennett, worldwide chairman of Sotheby’s International Jewellery Division, said: “The Sky Blue Diamond is of a wonderfully clear celestial blue, presented in an extremely elegant square emerald cut – in my view, the most flattering of all the cuts for a coloured diamond.
“This important gem will, I am sure, captivate all collectors of exceptional gemstones.”
The Gemological Institute of America graded the stone as Fancy Vivid Blue – the top colour grading.

Earlier this year Christie’s in Geneva sold the world’s most-expensive diamond, the Oppenheimer Blue, for almost £40million.
Another notable blue diamonds sold by Sotheby’s was the 10.10 carat, oval-cut “Millennium Blue,” which sold for $31.8 million in April 2016.
