Evil legacy of sex monster still lives on
VICTIMS of Britain’s worst paedophile are coming forward at the rate of one a week – and more are expected for the next three decades.
Youngsters preyed on by sick multi-millionaire William Goad are still contacting the police in large numbers four years after he was jailed for life, police revealed yesterday.
[>
Goad, 64, tortured and raped vulnerable boys over four decades, luring them into his string of properties by inviting them to play table football and pool.[>
[>
He created an “empire” to trap his young victims, including a camping club and businesses selling cheap goods to single mothers to gain access to their children.[>
We had victims from four decades
[>
Goad, worth an estimated £25million, once boasted he had abused 142 boys in one year alone – and claimed he would be able to beat that total.[>
[>
In 2004 Goad was sentenced to life imprisonment at Plymouth Crown Court, where he was dubbed a “voracious, calculating, predatory and violent homosexual paedophile”. It is thought he abused around 3,500 boys.[>
[>
Devon and Cornwall Police expect more people to come forward as they grow up and are able to confront what happened to them.[>
[>
Sgt John Livingstone said: “We had victims from four decades. We worked out there were thousands if he was as prolific as he boasted to be. [>
[>
“Some only came forward because they were approached by us. It could be another 30 years before the last victims disclose – and some may never tell. Some could deal with it. Some could commit suicide, some already have.”[>
[>
Goad, of Plymouth, pleaded guilty to 14 specimen counts of serious sexual assault and two counts of indecent assault dating back to 1965.[>
[>
The charitable sexual abuse support group Twelve’s Company said it was dealing with one Goad victim “referral” every week, which was passed on to police.[>
[>
Sgt Livingstone added: “His victims are all over the country. We visited them in prisons, for horrendous crimes, violent crimes. They are very hard men in hard prisons.[>
[>
“For the court case, all of those we dealt with had criminal records for drug-related, alcohol-related violence. It all seemed to be a product of the abuse. [>
[>
“But when you spoke to them, got to know them, they were nice people. You forgot their appearance, their record. They were very decent people.[>
[>
“Goad created the persona of being well connected. He told the boys he could have them got rid of, that he could get people to hurt their families.”[>
[>
Goad could be eligible for release in 2011 if he can show the authorities that he is no longer a danger to the public.[>
