A couple who purchased their dream home soon discovered it came with an unexpected surprise — a neighbour's enormous window that loomed over their new garden.

Daniel Cox and Nick Hodgins said that they felt constantly watched at their three-bedroom Edwardian terraced house in Leytonstone, east London, which they bought for £706,550.

To address this issue, they launched a garden makeover project they dubbed "Operation Hide the Window."

Documenting their efforts on TikTok, they set to work planting an array of greenery, aiming to shield their garden from view while also sprucing up the outdoor space.

They humorously referred to the neighbour’s extension as a former "porn set."

Describing their quest for privacy, they posted a picture of their rundown garden and the looming dormer window on TikTokwith the caption: "Okay, so we bought a house in 2022. A neighbour built this horrid extension breaching planning permission with the window. It was built over 10 years ago so we can't challenge it/get them to remove."

The couple recently celebrated the success of their mission, declaring that "the monstrosity" had completely disappeared behind their newly built natural screen of silver birch, maple, and fern trees.

A source told MailOnline: "The neighbours think what they have done to brighten up the garden and the locality is wonderful. They have brightened up the area and there hasn't been a single complaint from the people in the dormer. They haven't caused any trouble for the house with the huge dormer and window and everyone is happy."

The large window remains the only major drawback to the property, having been installed more than a decade ago.

It was constructed after the owners of a neighbouring shop were initially refused planning permission to convert their building into a residence in 2006. In the following year, they received local council approval to transform part of the property into a flat.

Since then, the garden has undergone a dramatic transformation, with new garden furniture placed throughout the space and a wide variety of plants added over a two-year period.

One image showing their progress noted that the window is "still there," but after adding a pagoda, decking, and black-and-white tiling, the couple admitted there was 'a slight improvement.'

With further "progress" being made, the trees are continuing to grow taller, and the couple announced they are "almost" there as the window gradually disappears.
