Bookworms are a rarity in Britain
BRITAIN has fallen out of love with book reading, new research shows.
Almost a quarter of adults have read fewer than five books in the past 12 months.
And the study, by Opinium Research, found more than seven million Britons have not read a single book in the past year, many blaming lack of time or a preference for films.
We are also becoming ignorant about great authors. More than 30 per cent of us were unable to name Charles Dickens as the writer of Great Expectations.
James Endersby of Opinium Research, said: “Unfortunately for many people reading is now a luxury they cannot commit time to.”
He urged everyone to read at least one classic this winter.
