‘Friend’ jailed for £183k con on elderly lady aged 94
AN accountant left an ageing family friend destitute in a care home while he spent her £183,000 savings on the high life, a court heard.
Callous Paul Willis, 51, had been trusted to manage the affairs of frail Margaret Nunn.
But instead of minding the 94-year-old’s money, the “trusted” friend used the cash for holidays and designer clothes.
The accountant, from Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, was rumbled only when Mrs Nunn’s daughter, Valerie Bedecker, alerted police after being told there was no inheritance.
Willis showed “not one iota of remorse” when arrested and claimed he had taken only £25,000.
He even charged Mrs Nunn, who died in 2008 at a care home in Winscombe, Somerset, £18,000 fees despite being left £10,000.
Sobbing Willis was jailed last week for 38 months after admitting theft in breach of trust between 2003 and 2009.
