Grandmother in cocaine smuggling case loses drugs appeal
A BRITISH grandmother sentenced to death for trying to smuggle £1.6million worth of cocaine into Bali has had her appeal rejected.
Lindsay Sandiford, 57, faces death by firing squad after Indonesia’s Supreme Court in Jakarta upheld the original Bali court’s decision in January and an earlier appeal in April. Sandiford, from Cheltenham, Gloucs, can still seek a judicial review before appealing for a presidential pardon.
She was arrested at Bali airport in May last year when customs officers found 4.8kg of cocaine in her luggage after she flew in from Bangkok.
She claims she was forced to transport the drugs after her children were threatened. Zoe Bedford from legal charity Reprieve called the court’s decision “disappointing”.
