Now Bank of England deputy chief Paul Tucker quits early
THE Bank of England will come under totally new top management following the shock resignation yesterday of deputy governor Paul Tucker.
The popular economist is quitting six months before his contract ends.
He will help incoming governor Mark Carney, who succeeds Sir Mervyn King on July 1, to settle in before leaving in the autumn to end 33 years with the Bank.
Mr Tucker’s move also sparked forecasts of further departures.
Mr Carney now has two deputies to find, as Charlie Bean will go next year after agreeing to stay for an extra year.
Mr Tucker, 55, joined soon after graduating from Cambridge University.
He has built up pension rights over three decades worth £126,000 a year.
