George Osborne joins Twitter on Budget Day and gets bombarded with advice
THE Chancellor George Osborne joined Twitter just hours before he gave his Budget speech today and swiftly received a barrage of advice from tweeters.
The Conservative MP opened his account by posting an image of the red briefcase containing details of his plan for the British economny.
Within an hour the 41-year-old had picked up over 10,000 followers with many looking to give their opinion of monetary policy.
In his first Twitter post, the Chancellor said: "Today I'll present a Budget that tackles the economy's problems head on helping those who want to work hard & get on".
Tweeter Luke Howard called for a cap on private landlord rents, while Paul Gregory asked for a tightening of tax loopholes used by multinationals.
While former deputy prime minister Lord Prescott wrote: "One personal plea. Please don't introduce a tax on tweets. It'll ruin me."
The Chancellor has started to follow 42 users, including the Prime Minister David Cameron, along with fellow Tories Jeremy Hunt and Justine Greening.
