'Dunkirk spirit' on snowed-in hospital wards
NURSES at a snowed-in hospital were last night praised for their "Dunkirk spirit" after they kept services running against the odds.
Some walked up to 10 miles to get to work at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.
And 30 slept there overnight as icy roads made it impossible to get home on Tuesday.
Makeshift beds were put up and breakfast was given yesterday morning to outpatients who were also stranded there.
Boss Anna Dugdale said: "It was the Dunkirk spirit and everyone mucked in and helped. It was really amazing to see the commitment."
The Bishop of Norwich, Graham James, said the heavy snow in Norfolk brought out a "spirit of neighbourliness" in the region as strangers went out of their way to help each other.
