Olympic legacy of baby names
PARENTS are set to keep the legacy of the Olympics alive by naming their children after top athletes, according to new research.
Following the success of London 2012, mums and dads trying to decide on names could be taking inspiration from stars of the Games.
Debra Chatfield, a historian from findmypast.co.uk, said the legacy of past Olympic and Paralympic heroes can be traced through time “and the memories of their achievements live on” in those named after them.
“Our archives show the popularity of naming children after medal-winning Olympians. We would not be surprised if next year sees a huge rise in children named after Olympic greats such as Usain Bolt, Jessica Ennis, Ellie Simmonds and Bradley Wiggins.”
