Tributes paid to soldier killed in Afghanistan
A BRITISH soldier killed in an insurgent ambush in Afghanistan was last night described as a “loyal, committed and thoroughly decent man”.
Corporal Alex Guy, 37, from the 1st Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment, died on Friday as he led his section to help a group of Afghan soldiers pinned down by enemy fire in the Nad-e Ali District of Helmand Province.
His wife Emma, who married him in 2006, said: “Alex was kind, a happy, full-of-life and kind-hearted man.”
Lieutenant Colonel Michael Aston MC, his Commanding Officer, said: “A loyal, committed and thoroughly decent man, his honest, welcoming approach and impressive operational pedigree saw him achieve the ideal balance between good friend, wise mentor and tough commander.”
