Blame game over passport delays
BRITAIN’S Border Force chief Brian Moore has blamed the wrong type of plane arrivals for major queues at Heathrow.
He said the “vast majority” of passengers had passed through immigration controls quickly, but when planes arrived too early or too late they caused “bunching” at immigration control.
Mr Moore also blamed airlines for sending out incorrect flight manifests, but he insisted the force was ready to “manage busy periods during the Olympics”.
He said: “The important factor is to have staff that are flexibly deployed in the right numbers at the right times and this is what we always try to do.”
Keith Vaz, chairman of the Home Affairs Select Committee, said: “I’m not saying we should abandon checks, but it’s a choice for the Government. You either look at the way you deal with people when they arrive at Heathrow or you recruit more staff.”
