M60 traffic: Cars stopped near Stockport as police incident sparks long delays

Drivers on the M60 experienced delays on Thursday, from J1 (Stockport Pyramid) to J25 A560 Crookilley Way (Brinnington). Traffic was stopped on part of the M60 as well as a major Greater Manchester road, following a 'police incident'.

The A6 Wellington Road North was shut in both directions between the A5145 Travis Brow Link Road and A560 Leyland Street. Both closures were linked, according to the Inrix traffic monitoring service.

Delays remain on M60

The M60 anticlockwise between J1 and J27 has reopened, but traffic remains around J1, particularly near Portwood roundabout.

'Concern for welfare' on A6

The incident on the A6 today was in relation to a concern for welfare for a person on Wellington Road North, Greater Manchester Police said. The issue has now been "safely resolved", the force added.

All lanes reopen

All lanes have now reopened between J1 and J27 anticlockwise on the M60.

M60 once again closed

In a separate incident, two out of three lanes on the M60 have been closed between J1 and J27. 

Other roads remain closed

While the M60 anticlockwise has fully reopened, the A6/Wellington Road North overhead remains closed, according to traffic monitoring service Inrix.

There are also reports of heavy traffic surrounding the closure on the A6 and on Travis Brow.

The closure of part of the M60 has also been reported by National Highways. 

Its latest update read the M60 is closed anticlockwise between junctions J1 and J25.

Normal traffic conditions are expected between 15.30 and 15.45

All traffic has been stopped on part of the M60 and the A6 in Stockport.

Vehicles are being held on the anticlockwise carriageway at junction one, for the Stockport Pyramid.

The A6 has also been closed in both directions at Wellington Road North.
