As the year nears its end, it's time to honour the crème de la crème of British cuisine, with the Fry Awards revealing its top picks for fish and chips across the UK.

Fry Magazine has once again disclosed its verdict on the 50 best fish and chip takeaways, as well as their top 10 restaurants. These results follow months of covert evaluations by judges who visited chippies nationwide, rating them on crucial aspects such as food quality, cleanliness, staff, and value for money.

Only those establishments achieving the highest scores were awarded, with a pass mark of an impressive 96% or above required in both categories. The awards, now in their 13th year in 2025, prove that good food is here to stay in the UK.

The top 10 restaurants span a variety of locations, from the southern coast of Devon all the way up to Glasgow in Scotland, with the majority based in beloved seaside towns. However, standing out from the crowd is London's sole entry in the top restaurants list - Toff's of Muswell Hill.

The extensive list includes a significant number of entries from Yorkshire, with seven establishments making the cut, including notable names such as Lighthouse Fisheries of Flamborough and Two Gates Fisheries. Essex, home to popular seaside towns like Southend-on-Sea and Clacton-on-Sea, also made its mark with four fish and chip takeaways alone, causing a stir in the seafood industry.

Reece Head, the competition organiser, said: "Another year has passed and, once again, these shops have shown resilience, adapting to today's challenges with remarkable dedication. At a time when inflationary pressures are being felt, these businesses continue to stay positive and prioritise their customers, maintain exceptional standards, and find innovative ways to keep fish and chips affordable.

"Starting the year as award winners is a fantastic way for fish and chip shops to kick off 2025, setting the tone for a successful year ahead. Whether served in a restaurant, a takeaway, or from a mobile unit, the Fry Awards prove that quality fish and chips can be enjoyed anywhere."
