Butlin's has faced backlash after security guards allegedly forcibly removed five transgender women from the women’s toilets.

This took place during a music event at their Skegness resort on October 5.

The security staff are said to have "violently dragged" the individuals from the lavatories, prompting Butlin's to remove the guards from duty and reaffirm its commitment to being an "inclusive business."

The removal of the guards has led to criticism, including from author J.K. Rowling, who called on Butlin's to clarify its stance on women-only spaces.

In a tweet, Rowling said: "Does Butlins think the desire of cross-dressing men to enter women-only spaces is more important than women's and girls' right to privacy and dignity?

"Hopefully Butlins will explain their policy, so women and families can make an informed choice about where to go on holiday."

According to Jae Roberts, one of the trans women involved, the altercation began when a security guard confronted a person with facial hair in the women’s toilet instructing them to leave on the grounds that they were a man.

When protests ensued from others in the restroom, the guard allegedly left and returned with 10 additional security officers.

Roberts described the incident on Instagram, she said: “Everyone in the toilets was chanting ‘let them pee’.”

She also claimed to have been forcibly dragged down a flight of stairs by two security guards.

Following the altercation, Roberts met with representatives from both Butlin’s and the festival organisers, where it was confirmed that the two most involved security guards had been immediately dismissed.

Butlin’s stated that the third-party security team had failed to follow protocols and were promptly removed from the event.

The resort, which had been hosting the Bang Face music event for the first time since its relocation from Southport Pontins, expressed disappointment in the incident.

A spokesman for Butlin’s Skegness told The Telegraph: “As an inclusive business we were very concerned to hear about this incident.

“Much to our disappointment, our third-party security contractor did not follow our processes despite being thoroughly briefed.

“Once we were made aware they were immediately removed from duty for not handling the situation in line with our processes. We are in direct contact with those involved and are reviewing how we work with contractors.”
