Scargill is stripped of NUM vote
FIREBRAND Arthur Scargill yesterday lost his voting rights in the miners’ union he led for more than 20 years.
The 72-year-old former NUM president, who headed the union during the bitter 1984-85 miners’ strike, was among a number of members to receive letters saying they were no longer qualified for full membership.
Mr Scargill, now honorary president of the NUM, has told friends he intends to fight the decision.
Mr Scargill has been involved in a legal dispute with the union over funds for fuel and an alarm system at his home in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. He has also been involved in a dispute over a union-funded flat in central London.
