Jill Dando Jail victim's £1.4m hope
THE man wrongly jailed for the murder of TV presenter Jill Dando won the first round yesterday of a legal battle for £1.4million in compensation.
Barry George, 50, was granted permission to challenge a Government decision to refuse him a pay-out for the eight years he spent behind bars.
But High Court judge Mr Justice Collins ruled any challenge must wait until the Supreme Court has announced decisions in three similar cases.
Miss Dando, 37, was shot dead on the doorstep of her home in Fulham, west London, in April, 1999.
