A six year old girl and a woman have tragically died following a horrific road accident in rural Scotland.

The fatal incident occurred when a VW Passat was involved in a crash on the A76 near Catrine, East Ayrshire, around 5pm on Tuesday. The young girl was pronounced dead at the scene, while the 32 year old female driver was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where she later passed away.

Relatives of both victims have been notified and are being supported by specialist police officers.

Authorities closed the road for investigation well into Tuesday evening. Police Scotland is now urging witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.

Inspector Kenny Malaney expressed his condolences, stating: "Our thoughts are with the everyone affected by this tragic incident at this extremely difficult time. Extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish what has happened and we are appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash, or may have been in the area at the time, to contact us.", reports the Mirror.

He added, "I am also keen to speak to anyone who have may dashcam footage. Anyone with information should contact police on 101, quoting incident 2596 of 24 September, 2024."

It follows a crash early this week in Scotland which saw a woman and four horses killed.
