Neighbour row erupts after mum threatened with legal action over toy unicorn

Anna Smith's neighbour, who described themselves as part of the 'Christian community', sent a threatening letter concerning the toy.

A London mother has found herself at the centre of a row with her neighbour after being threatened with legal action over a toy unicorn on the roof of her shed.

Anna Smith explained that she placed the toy, along with other items, on top of the shed because there simply wasn’t enough space in her garden to store them elsewhere.

“I have some items on top of my shed in my garden that have been there for over a year— a ladder, a ride-on unicorn, and a trike. My garden isn’t big enough to store them anywhere else,” she wrote in a Facebook post. "Now, my neighbors are saying the items are a major eyesore, and they are threatening legal action."

The seemingly innocent decision has provoked a strong reaction from a neighbour, who claims the items are a “nuisance”.

The neighbor, whose property overlooks Smith’s garden, is currently attempting to re-let the house and has expressed concern that the toys could deter potential renters.

In a letter sent to Smith, the frustrated neighbor said they were “anxious to resolve the matter” and indicated they had consulted a lawyer, warning that legal action could follow if the items were not removed by a specified deadline.

In a follow-up post, Smith shared a picture of the letter from her neighbour, which read: “As neighbors and a Christian community, we are anxious to resolve this matter amicably, but given our property is currently taking viewings on a re-let, and this is a real concern of our agent, it has to be sorted out quickly.”

The letter continued, warning that they had spoken with a lawyer who confirmed that the toys on the shed roof constituted an “actionable private law nuisance” and that swift legal action could be taken if the items were not removed by the stated deadline.

Despite the threat, those who saw Smith's post were quick to rally behind her.

"Does the unicorn face them?", one user commented. "If it doesn’t, I’d turn it around and paint its eyes with glow-in-the-dark paint.”

“I’d put more on the roof if it was me—maybe a giant cross seeing as they are Christians”, another said.

Many users criticized the neighbor's stance as absurd, with one person writing: "They’re talking rubbish. They just want everything to look perfect so they can get top dollar rent. They sound like they’d make terrible landlords too."
