Tragedy as body found in search for missing mum, 66, who vanished more than two weeks ago

A body has been found in the search for a mum, 66, who disappeared more than walk two weeks ago, police have said.

Christine Stenson was reported missing by her family and last seen on August 12 in the Wheatley, South Yorkshire, at around 5.30pm, according to South Yorkshire Police.

Her family have been frantically searching since she vanished, with police issuing multiple appeals to the public for information.

The body, found during the hunt for Christine, has not yet been formally identified, but officers believe it to be her remains.

South Yorkshire Police said: "Her family has been informed and continue to be supported by officers at this time."

"We want to take this opportunity to thank the public who have been incredibly supportive in sharing our appeals about Christine’s disappearance and for passing on information to assist our inquiry.

"Our thoughts are with Christine’s loved ones at this difficult time."

Police released a fresh CCTV photo of her yesterday, from Ascot Avenue, near the junction with Sandown Gardens, Doncaster, as well as an emotional plea from her loved ones, left "heartbroken" by her disappearance.

Officers also broke down Christine's last known movements until 6.03pm on August 12 - the point at which she was last captured by CCTV.

Police said she had been dropped off at an address on Hawke Road around 5.05pm that day, and believed she had left the property on foot minutes later as CCTV showed her walking along Cantley Lane on the end near to the A638.

Christine was walking towards the Rose Hill Cemetery, investigators said.

South Yorkshire Police Detective Superintendent Eleanor Welsh previously said search teams had been working tirelessly, with off-road bike teams, mounted officers, specialist search dogs and drones deployed to aid the efforts.
